Special nest boxes for our Lear’s Macaws
We at ACTP are always looking for ways to provide our birds with the best possible environment. Parrots are very intelligent animals and need lots of enrichment. To find out what they need, we always have a look on how the animals live in the wild and we have found a phenomenon for the Lear's Macaws.
In their natural habitat, Brazil, the birds breed on red sandstone walls. They create a kind of tunnel system that leads to their nests. That's what we are trying to simulate with our new nest boxes. A long tunnel leads to the actual nest box.
Immediately after installation, the box was curiously examined by the macaws.
We are pleased that the Lear's Macaws have adopted their new nest box so well and now we hope that the first eggs will be found in it soon.
